    Enjoyable Read

Mosse has a great ability in transporting her readers to the breathtaking landscapes of Southern France, Winter Ghosts is no exception. She also tends to spend a lot of time developing the characters and plot; once that is done - halfway through the book - the pace picks up and her great storytelling becomes apparent. In short, Winter Ghosts was an entertaining and indulgent read during the cold winter nights.

    The Winter Ghosts

An excellent read written by Kate Mosse. A young man who finds it difficult to stop grieving for his older brother who died in the First World War travels to the south of France. After his car breaks down he sets off on foot to the nearest village through forest. Here he becomes involved in a strange but haunting relationship with a young woman. Beautifully written and with wonderful descriptions of the area and his emotions the story reaches its climax. A great and interesting read.

    Heartbreaking

A really sad and beautiful story. Its a story that stays with you long after reading it. I enjoyed the first person narrative, and i feel the way that male grief is portrayed sensitively and very honestly. Many stories of war focus on the grief experienced by women and children for the men they have lost, so it was refreshing and informative to learn about the aftermath of war from a male perspective.
