  • These Old Shades

This is an old favourite, which I revisit every so often. One of the things I enjoy about reading Georgette Heyer's novels is the use of the language of the period. It places you firmly in the era and setting. The use of French gives an authenticity which adds to the story

The best of Georgette Heyer ! I have read this book several times along with The Devils Cub which I think was written first although chronologically second in time! excellent story great characters! I have the paper version and the e-book so that I can get that feel good factor whenever I like!!

  • Wonderful!

This is a great story by a fabulous author. The story takes place in the mid 1700's. Avon and Leonie are wonderful characters whose interactions are sweet, funny, touching and always delightful. The secondary characters are also well developed and add greatly to the tale. These Old Shades and it's sequel Devil's Cub are books that once read, you will find yourself repeatedly going back to for another read. The attention to details of the period, the beautiful writing and the touching romance are so vivid the story transports you to another time and place.

  • Another absorbing read from Heyer

I was delighted to get a Georgette Heyer I hadn't read and it doesn't disappoint. Mystery, excitement, romance and an enchanting heroine.
