  • Light hearted but...

A lighthearted read with a flawed female protagonist who believes she's jinxed on New Years (her birthday) and has issues to resolve in her life in general. While not funny, it's entertaining. I liked that it didn't rely on the male to rescue her or provider her with solutions to her problems, however, I think this book needs revision. It's written as (mostly) happening in 2020, and was written pre-Covid. So the whole time I'm reading, I see the dates (as they're the chapter titles) and am immediately taken out of the story. There is no reason the author couldn't have changed it to 2019 (she acknowledges the issues in the 'acknowledgements'), unless she wanted to add some 'importance' to the main characters' lives as they turned 30 in 2020 (thus perpetuating some myth about turning 30 changing your life, which is a fallacy that authors/ film makers etc need to kill off in my opinion - it's lazy and boring).

  • Such a cute story!

Absolutely loved this one! I purchased this book last year and was a bit hesitant to read it. I was worried I would be let down with a fluffy lack lustre romance. How wrong I was! “Life is change - if nothing’s changing, you aren’t living” This time next year explores the lives of two people who were born on the same day a few minutes apart. Quinn was the first baby to be born of the new year quickly followed by Minnie. Quinn won the prize money, the name and what appeared to be an easy life filled with everything a child could want. Minnie on the other hand became cursed on New Years and every year tried to avoid the celebration all together. But on NYE leading into their 30th birthdays their two lives cross paths and the secrets and truths about each of their lives begin to unfold. Over the next year they keep running into each other but can not seem to work out their feelings and emotions towards each other. “Don’t cry about something you wouldn’t cry about in five years” This story had me literally giggling, crying and feeling all the feels. It was so heart warming and touching and I couldn’t get enough of it. Even though love stories never seem to play out this romantically in real life it is nice to keep us dreaming. This time next year was full of little life lessons and inspirations and really explored the idea of being happy within yourself before worrying about brings others into your life. “Be a good companion to yourself and you will never be lonely ” Definitely a 5 star for this one, can not wait to read Sophie Cousens next book!

  • Loved it

Loved this book , once I got used to the jumping around of the dates! One thing I will ,say is that if you are an insomniac like myself and have been advised by their GP to read if unable to get back to sleep, don't choose this book - couldn't put it down !!
