  • Sociological study meets narrative

These are the stories of three women from different parts of America at different life stages. Published in 2019 and a NY Times Bestseller. It"s a book about relationships... the desire, loneliness, control, connection, trust, trauma, abandonment, power, privilege, and consequences. It's intense. Maybe triggering for some. One of the women is dealing with the aftermath of being groomed and abused by a high school teacher, one woman is leaving a passionless marriage for a man she's clearly projecting her ideals onto, and one is a recovering bulimic in a marriage that has more than just her husband in. This book is really a longitudinal sociological study using a narrative to make it feel like fiction, though the characters aren't fully developed. If you're going to read this, just accept that it's an account of only one aspect of their lives: a defining relationship for each.

  • Non-fiction for fans of fiction

I don't usually read non-fiction but found this as much of a pageturner as my usual fiction reads, and genuinely couldn't stop thinking about it. I think any woman would recognise a bit of themselves in Maggie, Sloane or Lina's thoughts and feelings; it was at times heartbreaking, shocking, frustrating or even dare I say it darkly comic, and I have told all my friends to read it! These are important stories to share.

  • Raw and real

A very raw and real account of women, relationships, abuse, lack of confidence, self worth but not in a judgy way.
