  • Well written but lacked the bond/connection

✩ ✩ ✩ ✩ 4-STAR ✩ REVIEW ✩ ✩ ✩ ✩ > > Judging a Book by it's Cover < < Strong font choices, but the overall composition of the models against the blackout backdrop feels better suited for a psychological thriller than a BDSM Menage Romance. Synopsis sounds interesting but, to be honest, I've loved the Collars & Cuffs series and the Secrets series enough that I only gave the blurb a glossed-over glance. I was much more excited by the prospect of reading another book written by this dynamic transatlantic duo. > > Looking Deeper < < POV ~> Third-Person Setting ~> England Aaron and Sam are two lost Doms. Their sub, Seb, broke their contract and left them with no explanation, no warning, leaving them broken and doubting every move they'd made with their boy over the nearly-six years together. Two years, through ups and downs, the men have been empty. Living together, but feeling the utter loneliness, neither having the desire to put themselves out there again but knowing deep down that something had to change before their very souls withered away. Enter Tim. Homeless, sick, on the verge of death. Scapegoat and punching bag to four older brothers, he was beaten and tossed out with only the clothes on his back. Aaron witnesses the boy collapse, barely conscious from his condition, and decides he needs to rescue him, nurse him back to health... hoping to keep him against Sam's better judgment and even his own reservations. But Tim just wants to serve, to make others happy... to belong and feel loved. This third SECRETS book by KC Wells and Parker Williams was well-written and the pages flew by smoothly. Though I enjoyed the lead trio of this book, their story felt a little too flat to me, having read the C&C series and the previous Secrets books, I'd expected it to contain more dynamics and/or drama. It was almost too feel-good contemporary, despite the milder BDSM tones. The conflicts that did arise were minimal and too easily resolved. It felt anti-climatic. Secondary subs and Maggie had much bigger roles in this book too, making me feel even less connected to the trio the book was written for. Predictability was low and the conclusion is solid. Sadly, I love the authors and their two series, but this was not a favorite of mine (I think it's a bit hard to compete with Vic and Rob's story though). I hope the next book is stronger and packs more content. .
