  • Another incredible read

The beautifully fluid writing of CJSansom is a masterclass in Tudor history. So filled with description (without being too verbose) that you are immediately transported back to the sights and smells of the time. His characters are all so well drawn that you can see them as true flesh and bone; cheering on the good guys and loathing the bad. I loved every page, and learned a huge amount. Matchless.

    Thanks for your feedback!

  • Heavy going towards the 2/3 point

I’ve enjoyed enjoyed all of the books in this series, however, this one got bogged down for much of the story in the people’s revolt, it was interesting from an historical perspective, but detracted from the main theme of the story, which was only returned to late in the book, with the discovery of the villains being done almost by accident, and as, what felt like an afterthought. It made this heavy going towards the 2/3 point
