  • Just incredible.

I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy and yet this is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review for anything. This book is a gem. The style of narration is, if not original, then so far outside the norm for the genre that it seems so. The story was wonderfully complex, intricately plotted and with an impressive cast. The writing somehow managed to be lean even with tangents and history lessons aplenty. The pace never slacked, every part giving a new piece of the puzzle. I feel it pointless to give an overview of the plot since the main story point (the investigation of a theft) is really only a catalyst for the investigation of the amazing future world Palmer has concocted. I'd recommend this book to fans of the late great Iain M. Banks (another great for thoughtful scifi), Asimov (who could have a similar historical style) or anyone looking for something different in the genre.

  • Weird-ass, Awesome, Enjoyable

I understand perhaps 30% of what was happening all the time and after a while I just let it wash over me and enjoy it.

  • Solid read

I only gave this book 4 stars because sometimes it felt a bit of a chore to get to the end sometimes. I don't know why - maybe I was reading too many books at the same time. The writing and world building is excellent. The social and psychological themes are top shelf. It is also clearly a story arch that spans all 3 books. I suspect that this book is best given 100% attention when you are reading it.

    Thanks for your feedback!
