  • Excellent

I love the whole series of books Mark Sennen has written featuring Detective Charlotte Savage. The pace of the books is fast and the plots are well crafted - not reliant upon improbable coincidence as some novels are. In this book, the narrative moves seamlessly between victim, perpetrators and police with many tense and breathtaking moments in every chapter. I live in the South Hams and therefore recognise the landscape that provides such a strong backdrop to the Charlotte Savage series and enhances the immersion of the reader. My only regret is that now I have read the whole series, it will be a while before I can lose myself once again in the excitement of a new Charlotte Savage case!

Sennen writes superbly dark books. His characters are real and believable, and the plots well crafted.

  • A good yarn

This was a good easy read, it led to a frantic finished which at last speeded the pace up. I think the characters may build as the books go on. The author has an obvious dislike for the city of Plymouth, every time it gets a mention it's either the puke stained streets or rough estates full of ne'er do wells and junkies or it's constantly raining! Even when the Characters appear on Plymouth Hoe, he even makes that sound drab. I doubt the Plymouth tourist board will be beating tracks to his door! But as I said it was a decent read, if a bit formulaic.

  • Good idea, ok plot

I started this series as i love crime novels. The storyline is ok, but character development was poor. And some of the plot itself was unbelievable. Feel bad as it was an ok read ut only ok!
