  • Great WWII espionage literature

Having read the first two books of the series, The Best of Our Spies and The Swiss Spy, Vienna Spies was as good as The Best of Our Spies with The Swiss Spy trailing by a little bit. For me, the research into the period and location are very important. The feeling of being in Vienna just before the end of the war in Europe was important to me and Alex Gerlis had done the research on the people of Vienna and the city of Vienna. The characters were richly drawn with faults that sometimes took them down the wrong path. No two-dimensional characters here. The story contains a few characters who figured in the first two books, but not so much that Vienna Spies couldn't be read as a stand alone novel. Looking forward to reading the next in the series, Berlin Spies.

    Thanks for your feedback!
