  • sexy with some surprisingly serious subject matter

Ava March is one of my favorite historical romance authors mostly because I know that without fail any of her books will be a hilariously pulpy vehicle for ridiculously hot sex. In this one, though while the pulpiness and the hot sex were still there she also tackled some surprisingly serious subject matter. Namely one of the characters has a learning disability that renders him functionally illiterate and the other man character is addicted to gambling. For the most part, it worked, I thought. There was a good balance of handling these serious issues with a surprising amount of sensitivity while also giving us the over the top sexy times I expect from this author. My one issue was the resolution to the gambling addiction storyline felt rushed and unrealistic. I think that it will be something this character will continue to struggle with for the rest of his life and denying that actually weakened the HEA. But the rest of this book worked really well.

    Thanks for your feedback!
