  • A gripping book with a few issues

A great idea, slightly ruined by the unnecessary side love plot and predictable storyline. Personally, the ending felt a little rushed and could've been developed a little more but overall the book was good. It was definitely a gripping book (being a fan of dystopian fiction) and is a pretty light read. I loved the way it was carried out and the idea was presented. The way the "bracelet" changed relationships and the new ideology broke a family apart was presented beautifully. There was enough backstory to create the emotion in the character and show how she's feeling and even a great plot twist. Overall a great read if your looking for a light read.

  • Great interesting concept

Lacking in emotional depth even though the concept had potential. needed character building.

  • Gripping Alternate Future

I would recommend this book and don’t regret purchasing it. Despite buying it in the sale I would happily have payed full price for it. Christina Dalcher created an intriguing setting that I found to be thought provoking. The premise of the book is what intrigued me and I was not disappointed. If you like the topics of near futures, social injustice and scientists then I think you will enjoy this book.

  • Inferior version of Handmaid's Tale

Similar premise to Handmaids Tale. It kind of feels like this book is riding on the coattails of its recent success as a book to TV show. Like HT, Middle America is taken over by stealth by religious zealots who believe women's true calling is home and hearth. The twist here is that, rather than just being assigned new 'roles', women are also limited to a certain number of words per day. Exceeding that number brings a painful electric shock which increases in frequency and can cause burns. Starts promisingly but just too neatly tidied up for me.
