  • A Story About Sisters

Actual rating 4.5! This is a book made with heart. The bond between Inara and Zhura is one of the sweetest I’ve ever read, and wonderfully different from most familial bonds I read in books. The same can be said for most bonds in the book, all of which are woven together with incredible prose and enticing magic. The story starts off right where it had been left and the characters struggle to cope with their losses. That is a huge theme throughout the book. As sweet as the romances and family bonds are, this is a challenging read. Larson approaches her main characters by showing their vulnerability and the struggle it is to find strength in so much doubt. I really enjoyed watching Zhura nd Inara fight despite their fears. They are inspiring women who I think a lot of readers will relate to. They also have tender and fairly uncomplicated but sweeping romances. Raidyn and Zhura stole my heart but Inara’s went in a new direction. I think it could have been expanded on, since there was a moment at the end that came out of the blue and didn’t quite see fair, but there was some solid development from another character I didn’t expect. I think Larson could have done more to expand her main characters and the side characters, but at the end of the day the themes of the book are what shine brightest. I had a great time reading about Inara and Zhura’s adventures, and am happy I gave this series a chance!
