I didn't know much at all about Jehovah's Witnesses before reading this book. I was interested in learning what the religion is really like for youths growing up with parents instilling those religious beliefs on them. It is a dark book, but only because it is a dark story and the author didn't have to force dark drama, it was entirely believable. I felt while reading it that it could have been a true story or must be based on true events and could identify with Emily and her sister.

A dark journey of self discovery

This is an interesting story of the family dynamics amongst a Jehovah Witness family. Their struggle to follow their strict beliefs constantly denies them an opprtunity for meaningful family life. The story alternates chapters from Emily as an adult with chapters of young Emily's childhood. The author does a good job of character development mixed with dark and witty storyline, which is both informative and intriguing.

    Hypocrisy personified!

A harrowing story of the suffering of the victims of hypocrisy and the havoc it creates! I read it in a couple of days and I felt great empathy with the characters!
