    We Die Alone

This is a powerful book about several issues - human endurance, supreme sacrifices made during war, the "brotherhood" (for want of a better word) of man, the willingness (indeed desire) to place oneself in danger for the greater good, bravery, and the triumph of good over evil - at least. The book was published in 1951. As a reader of strong non-fiction I'm surprised I had not heard of it earlier, and would highly recommend it as a rivetting read.
