  • Loved it

Fell in love with the book and all three women immediately Was only disappointed when the book ended. I wanted it to go on. Hoping Emily's story might continue in the future.

  • Fun spin off from Devil Wears Prada

15 years after 'The Devil Wears Prada' and a sequel in 2013, we get a spin off! Emily Charlton, former senior assistant to Miranda Priestley at Runway magazine, is now 36, living in LA, married and a celebrity stylist/image consultant for scandal-ravaged rich folk. But she's feeling edged out by younger competitors in the market who are far more enamoured with social media than she. When she loses a big client, then another, she turns to her old friend Miriam - formerly a partner in a NYC law firm, now adjusting to living in the suburbs with her husband and 3 kids. Much to Emily's disgust at "the suburbs", she spends quite a bit of time in Miriam's house wallowing/regrouping. Enter Miriam's friend Karolina - the supermodel wife of a presidential hopeful who finds herself in trouble. Predictably, the image consultant and lawyer team up to help Karolina. The story is straightforward enough, with a few curve-balls thrown in to make it interesting, but it is the backdrop to the story which makes it a fun indulgent escape: Ridiculously wealthy people, with their high-end consumables and never ending bizarre events that are all thinly veiled excuses to Day Drink enough for a buzz then sober up in time for school pick up! Emily is still sarcastic, judgemental and sharp tongued, which provides relief to the cliches and the paranoia of women with too much time to worry that their husbands are cheating on them and picking which cosmetic surgery to have next. The addition of the political element to the story makes the novel surprisingly topical. Overall, a good spin off from Prada - less fashion and Miranda, more politics and revenge, same obsession with diet (coffee, diet soda and definitely no carbs), and same snarky zingers to laugh at.

    Thanks for your feedback!
