    Beauty Soothes the Beast

I adored Sophie and Reese! It was a "Beauty soothing the Beast" situation that was totally believable! Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy!

    A lovely read

Will it be too late for them now she is engaged to marry someone else ... Mrs Anna Bennett with this classic tale of the destitute family selling out their daughter’s future right when she might have meet the one man for herself, proposes a heartfelt version of this common trope. Sophie is the prim and proper miss, never straying, except for her (with her two friends help) one secret society, she never steps out of the pavement, always follows the rules and will do her duty for her family. She is a loving soul, caring for everyone’s welfare, and trying her best with her few means. Reese lives in guilt, the survivor’s guiltiness. Why is he still breathing when his older brother and his soldier friends not any more. So he blames and buries himself in his remorse, unable to sleep as he pledged by nightmares. When encountering Sophie offers him a respite in his grim days and nights. By whatever magic she carries, she soothes his soul and help his find his rest. Thus his scandalous offer. Their relationship is one of two fated souls, each easing the other’s struggles. From the very beginning, they institute a companionship based on honesty and truthfulness. And will the clock is ticking, Sophie discovers a new sense of the Love word, and by giving a purpose, a schedule to Reese, he slowly grows out from his griefs, morphing to a better man. A very lovely story of finding its right footing and its own voice. I have just some questions, when and where is the plot set, I suppose around 1810, and London is to be the city, but I had problem to figure out how Reese’s town mansion could be so grand in the middle of the Capital. And how Sophie could go out without even a maid to attend with her. 4.5 stars for this charming story of two people who recognize instantly the chance they were given to taste love even if it was not to last. I was granted an advance copy by the publisher St Martin’s Paperbacks, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

    Strong Heroine

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. When You Wish Upon A Rogue is the third book in Anna Bennett’s series The Debutante Diaries. This book could be read as a stand-alone as the author does an excellent job of filling in the background details, but I think you would enjoy it even more if you’ve read the first two books. Sophie Kendall’s parents have arranged a marriage for her to save the family from financial ruin. She’s accepted that this is her fate until a chance encounter with Henry Reese, Earl of Warshire, leads to a friendship and then something more. Henry Reese was never meant to be the Earl, the accidental death of the older brother he’d worshipped has left him with a tangled mess of an inheritance, uncertain finances and the deaths of his fellow soldiers shortly after his departure from the front has him afraid to fall asleep because of the nightmares that haunt his dreams. Spending time with Sophie is the only thing that gives him peace, but he can’t solve her family's financial problems, and all looks bleak for them. I enjoyed reading their story very much and do recommend this book and the first two books in the series. They feature strong heroines and heroes who appreciate their strengths. Medium Steam. Publishing Date May 26, 2020. #WhenYouWishUponARogue #AnnaBennett #NetGalley #HistoricalRomance #StMartinsPress #bookstagram

    Fun, sassy heroine!

I just adore this series. This book is Miss Sophie Kendall's story. Sophie loves presiding over the secret meetings of the Debutante Underground to discuss the local weekly advice column The Debutante’s Revenge, along with her best friends Lily, who writes the column and Fiona who draws the pictures. Sophie knows that once she is married to Lord Singleton she will need to give it up. It also doesn't help that she really doesn't want to marry Lord Singleton but because of her father's gambling debt she has no choice. One night after her meeting, Sophie scopes out other nearby bigger locations for her meetings. While in an abandoned warehouse, she comes upon Henry Reese, the Earl of Warshire. Sophie doesn't realize who Reese is but quickly he is taken by her. Sophie brings a calm to Reese's mind and soon he falls asleep...something that he rarely ever does. After waking, Reese realizes that he wants to make Sophie a deal....she can use his warehouse in exchange for spending one night a week with him so he can get some sleep. Sophie is reluctant at first but then agrees. As Reese and Sophie spend more time together, certain feelings start to emerge. Sophie decides to throw caution to the wind and experience a little of life before she has to marry Lord Singleton. By the time she has to announce her betrothal she has fallen in love with Reese. Just when it looks like all hope is lost, the perfect answer falls into their lap and Reese and Sophie can finally get their happy ending. I just adore Sophie! She is such a fun, sassy heroine. I love how she takes control of her life. I really enjoyed Reese too. He had such horrible skeletons in his closet but with Sophie's help he was able to overcome them. This was a fun, enjoyable love story that had great banter. I'm sad to see this series end.

    A new favorite!!

This has become high on the list as one of my favorite historical romances. It had lots of emotions (there was leakage from my eyes on quite a few occasions). A tortured Earl, Reese, who has many demons, you can’t help but instantly fall for him and hope he slays those demons. A young caring woman, Sophie, with ideals & thoughts, who cares so much about everyone, and usually puts them before herself. When they meet, at first, he’s just a grumpy man & she’s the one who helps him. From there it turns into so much more. And the more they get to know each other, the more you fall in love with the idea of them being together. He loves her but is torn up by recent tragedies. She loves him but is duty bound to another for her families sake. And as you read you hope they find a way to make it to each other in the end. Completely in love with this!
