  • Loved it!

I adored this book. I'm such a fan of smart heroines, and for all her naivety, Claire was more than a match for Colin. When it came down to it, she wasn't afraid to fight for not only the adventure she craved, but the man she loved. I'm going to go back to get the first two in the series, because although they're not required to read this, I loved the characters and the writing so much. I look forward to reading more from Elizabeth Bright in the future.

  • An Adventure worth taking!

The stories of those who went to Egypt to hunt for treasure before it was restricted are fascinating. Colin Smith is just that adventurer! After being gone for ten years he returns to London to sell some treasures he has found and is looking for a patron to back his further expeditions. Despising the people and rules of the ton, he is eager to obtain what he needs and return. When he finds a Marquess who is willing to fund him, he also finds his daughter Clair who is determined to go on a treasure hunt with him to find a priceless jewel. Of course she is totally smitten with him upon first glance but she is everything that Colin has stayed away from. Will he take her and what will they find? Will he change his mind and find love with Clair? Elizabeth Bright has written an enjoyable tale with captivating characters that will keep you entertained until the end! I am anxious to go back and read the first two books in this series, but his can be read as a standalone.

  • Adored this Heroine

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. Wicked With The Scoundrel by Elizabeth Bright is the third book in her Wicked Secrets Series. Each book is written as a stand-alone but characters from the other two books are also in this one. Colin Smith the natural son of a viscount is an adventurer and explorer, he has returned to England after an absence of 10 years to sell some of the artifacts he has collected and to find a sponsor to support a new expedition to Egypt. Lady Claire Harrison is the daughter of a Marquess and when she meets Colin it’s love at first sight, he however is very aware that he is not for her and needs a little convincing. Lady Claire is an interesting heroine because she has a photographic memory and is I think with her lists a bit on the autism scale, that Colin not only accepts her but comes to love her exactly as she is makes this a very enjoyable story to me. • Charming Regency

This charming story is book three in Elizabeth Bright's Wicked Secrets series. I didn't read the first two and wasn't lost at all, so you shouldn't have any problem. Claire is the daughter of a peer and lacked for nothing. She has an amazing memory and could remember every detail. Every. Boring. Detail. Therefore, she wished for excitement and adventure. Colin, too, was the child of a peer, albeit an illegitimate one. He is a treasure hunter who risks life and limb in his quest to make money. Could these two be any different? Claire immediately fell in love with Colin. He, though, didn't seem very impressed with her. This is a romance novel, however, so you know of course that he falls in love with Claire. Here is the plot point in the story that tempered my enjoyment a bit. Colin seemed to turn into a totally different person when he fell in love. Of course he wanted to protect his beloved, but he turned into an overbearing nanny. Claire, though, wouldn't put up with that, and she ended up being the stronger of the two characters. It was still a fun story and I plan to read more from this author. I received an ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley. I received no compensation for my review, and all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

  • DNF, unsympathetic main characters

DNF at 39%. Colin Smith has been off travelling the world having adventures, just the way he like it. But he has been forced to return to London to raise more money. He has been asked by the Marquess of Chatwell to humour his eccentric daughter Lady Claire Harrison's search for buried roman treasure by 'finding' some jewellery that he has recently buried, in return the Marquess will fund Colin's next treasure hunt. Lady Claire Harrison is somewhat socially awkward, she has a perfect memory and if left unchecked will tell someone the details of each and every time she has been to a venue (or any other occurrence). She is clearly intended to be portrayed as extremely intelligent if misunderstood and lacking in social skills (think Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory). I tried with this book but I just couldn't get into the writing, it felt artificial as if the author was talking in a fake English aristocratic accent as she wrote the book. I thought both Colin and Claire were unlikable characters and the insta-lurve that Claire experienced didn't ring true - why would she fall in love with such a boorish man? I picked the book up again to give it one last chance and nope, just couldn't carry on. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
