  • Great book about real people!

Brilliant book about three generations in China. Goes from warlords through Kuomintang period and Japanese invasion, civil war and communist victory, rule by Mao and cultural revolution. All first hand experience and well written. Very readable. Have read this book three times and still love it.

  • Travel though the history of China.

This book is well worth the long read as it is a fascinating history of China told from the biographical perspective of three generations of women. It starts in the time of warlords, concubines and bound feet, travels through the birth of communism and then the evil of Mao, The Cultural Revolution and Gang of Four. This is a true story of strong women triumphing hardship.

  • China? What China??

A brilliant insight into 20th century China. Not so much a Peoples Republic but a Republic its people have and still do suffer for. An eye opener on mismanaged Communism witth the backdrop of that ancient mystic and beautiful land. Jung Chang captures it all marvellously.

    Thanks for your feedback!
