    More practical than gimmicky

    Although it sounds like a gimmick - shoving things into a waffle iron to see what happens - there was serious recipe and technique testing done for this book, and the recipes are reliable and tasty. There are useful tips in here as well, and I use the one for cleaning the waffle iron regularly. It's worth following the recipes exactly the first time around; the author really has tested these out and my first attempt at the hash browns failed because I wanted to believe that I didn't have to take the extra step of getting the shredded potatoes really dry. He tells you to do that because if you don't, you get a gluey mess that doesn't crisp up. Lesson learned! This cookbook has also inspired me to try waffling various things from the fridge. Banana bread batter waffles beautifully!
