  • An interesting and entertaining beginning …

As Mark embarks on a journey to learn magic from his Nanna, can he acquire the ability quickly enough to help his newest school chum Damian, who’s desperately in need of some aid. It seems Damian’s brought something more than just spiffy clothes with him from London. This is a well written, entertaining quick read with interesting and likeable characters, some humour, magic and teenage drama. I’m curious to see how the discovery at the Winter Solstice impacts everyone’s lives moving forward.

  • Excellent Start to Series

Although this is listed as YA, it's very well written and the plot and characters held my attention. So if you like magic and paranormal elements, but don't usually read YA, don't let the tag stop you. The characters are the highlight of this book, they come across as very realistic and interesting with a lot of depth (impressive considering the relatively short length of the book). The plot is a close second and I particularly liked how magic was approached in an organic fashion in the story. The M/M romance sub-plot feels natural and not forced. Book One in the series and is a complete story although it leaves some elements unresolved which I assume will be the focus of Book Two. This was my first book by Marsden, but I intend to read the rest of the series. Thanks to Booksprout for my copy, I've chosen to review.

  • Enjoyable young paranormal

Sweet and enjoyable. Well written characters who show love, loyalty and bravery. The author sets up a wonderful YA environment and delightful introduction to the series, which I plan to enjoy.
