  • What a childhood!

I came to this book via a recommendation rather than as a fan of the music. It’s well written and easy to read, and the story kept me interested from beginning to end. While the story is very much about Barnes life, the descriptions of life in Glasgow and as an immigrant in Elizabeth are eye opening. It’s shameful to see how the immigration programme let these people down. It’s a wonder he has survived the various challenges-both self inflicted and inherited. Can’t wait to read the sequel.

  • amazing!

This story blew me away! What a childhood - the violence, poverty, abuse - something no child should endure! but then there was times of love and happiness. I cried, gringed and laughed through Jimmys life.

  • Great job Jimmy

What a fantastic book. Extremely well written and a great read. I could not put it down. Laughingbout loud one minute then crying the next. Definately adding some copies to the Christmas present list.

  • Working class boy

Omg so traumatised by your upbringing having been a huge fan all my life. Your music helped me through an abusive relationship, never knowing what you had been through and survived. Obviously you are a survivor and thanks god you found Jane and helped so many people with your music. I'm amazed that such adversity is repeated rather than rejected but that is life's conundrum. Looking forward to the next instalment. You are an incredible man

  • Deeply Moving

Thank you Jimmy for laying out your life's story for us to read. It is very well written and I could hear Jimmy tell his story. I thoroughly recommend this book. It opened my eyes to the forms and impacts domestic violence and childhood neglect can have. The snippets we get in the media don't go far enough to explain the long term impact to the person.
