  • Awesome, just what I needed.

I really enjoy reading about Dory, and this was no exception. Good little story. Also a bit more about Marlowe is always welcome!

  • 4 1/2 stars entertainment

Very amusing, fast-paced plot. I always enjoy Dorina Basarab stories and this one was no exception. This novella introduces Dorina to Kit Marlowe and shows how their animosity developed. Intrigue abounds as does magic, zombies, crocodiles and a necromancer. Hang on for a fast ride and lots of fun.

  • Short Story not to be missed

Somehow I had missed this short story on Ms. Chance's website. I absolutely loved it. This book should be read after Midnight's Daughter. This is the story of how Kit Marlowe and Dorina first met. It explains the animosity that is between the two characters. When one of his flock die, vampire Kit Marlowe, seeks revenge against the one he believes to be behind it. Dorina is on the run from an angry vampire while trying to investigate who set her up to take the fall in the murder of another. It is a story of cat and mouse where both have super strength and don't hold their punches. This was a captivating story that is now one of my favorites in the series.

  • Nawlins

This story is before Dorys main story's. You also get to see Kit. It's a bunch of crazy running around trying to figure out the mystery. It's based in "Nawlins". Kit and Dory first meet. And the story is free on Karen's web site. It's a great and fun back story.

  • Utterly magical

When i first discovered this series several years ago, i instantly fell in love with Dory's in-your-face brand of justice. There is something almost cathartic about reading her hilarious interactions with whoever crosses her path, friend or foe. This book did not disappoint on that score. Backed into a corner and faced with Kit Marlowe's rather intense and single-minded focus -- and not in the good way -- Dory once again comes out swinging. Hats off to the author for yet another fantastic read! If you enjoy this series, don't forget to check out the Cassandra Palmer series, also by this author, for an equally magical and chaos packed read. Set in the same world with another amazing cast of players (And some old friends) both series have remained firmly at the top of my 'read again' list for more than a decade now.
