    Sizzling connection, fascinating characters

I'm a sucker for stories where the Hero is a sucker for the Heroine and is not afraid to admit it to himself. Ethan goes a little further and admits it to Garrett. The way he loves her, makes for wonderful prose, and I've said this before and I say it again -- no one writes a Hero's point of view as well as Ms Kleypas. Many romance writers, particularly many women, tend to think a Regency England man's point of view consists of just lewd thoughts, horses and avoiding marriage. But come on people -- us readers want as much depth in the Hero's character as in the Heroine's. Garrett is an amazing Heroine. She's a doctor, extremely intelligent, accomplished, confident about what she wants. Ethan is some sort of tormented secret agent, bound by his past and unable to look forward. They come together against all odds and Garrett will not give up on this strange, mutual attraction. I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed the first chapters where Garrett and Ethan's chemistry was off the charts. However, the last chapters dragged on too much for my liking, and the H and h came back from some frankly unrealistic sticky situations. They may be smart, but come on. So while this is an enjoyable read, don't count on this book to give you an amazing story.
