  • Being right

At first glance you could be forgiven for thinking this brief book was little more than the nonfiction equivalent of a novelisation of the author's compelling phone-in radio show. The chapters are bulked up by the inclusion of transcripts of some of the more memorable moments from O'Brien's encounters on air. But thanksfully the book is much more than that, allowing O'Brien to flesh out his reasoning in a way that the restrictions of talk radio do not permit. Here is an insightful man, revealing truths by way of facts, over the course of a flush of chapters looking at things from the demonisation of the nanny state to the destructive lies of Donald Trump. It's a short book, but it needn't be longer; it does everything it sets out to do, and for that we can be thankful. Bravo, James O'Brien, you've done your old man proud.

  • How to dismantle gullability

Whilst some people might think he comes across as condesending, this book sets out how to argue in a logical way to skewer reactionary / populist arguments in a very effective fashion. Also shows that many who hold these views are not stupid, just manipulated. If only more in the media (and wider population) could ask quedtions like this!

  • Excellent

Excellent book as expected from James O’Brien. Very sad portrayal of where this country is today.

  • Insightful read - recommended

Literally read this book in three days which is highly unusual for me. Written in a way which challenges the founding (or lack of) arguments behind the biggest issues facing 21st Britain.

  • Wish more like this

Amongst the charlatans across politi s and media, glad there's someone trying to challenge the lies and self interest of the rest...including those that are supposed to be impartial such as the BBC
