  • Deep thoughts on thinking

Clearly, Alan Jacobs has give a great deal of thinking on how people think. This book delves into how people think and act as they do. At times a little dry, this book will help you understand and navigate the political and social world we live in.

  • How To Think - A Survival Guide

Alan Jacobs’, “How to Think - A Survival Guide for a World at Odds,” was recommended on Fareed Zakaria’s program, The Global Public Square. He was fairly enthusiastic about the book. For me, it was a good read, but not a profound read. I was hoping for something more. Really, it was a series of platitudes with some reasonable research that helped to guide a person’s thinking towards centre in all things. It became a generic road map of politeness in how to navigate ideas. I did appreciate that the author took a personal approach to what he had to say, and often supported his thinking with humorous anecdotes. Nonetheless, while the book was a good read, it didn’t take me anywhere that I couldn’t get to on my own. In today’s world, with the divisiveness that is occurring in America and elsewhere, I was looking for something that was somewhat more substantial in its commentary and impact. Still a good read.
