28 new eBooks and audiobooks we’re looking forward to this week
Welcome back to New & Hot Reads: a weekly roundup where we share some of the most anticipated books coming out now
We’ve been posting some of the writing from Telegrams from Home: Vol. 1 over the past few weeks. Each piece is a view from the world we’re in now: where we’re not going out much, and when we do, it’s with the burden of decisions and consequences we’re not yet used to. It’s a wonderful book we produced in partnership with West End Phoenix, an indie Toronto newspaper. If you’ve been struggling to focus and read full-length books it might be exactly what you need. Every copy sold will benefit Community Food Centres Canada, and it’s full of writing by some of Canada’s finest. It’s out this week and as the title implies, there are more volumes to come. Stay tuned.
In the title of his new book How to Survive a Pandemic, physician Michael Greger isn’t referring to this pandemic. But his insights into how diseases originate and spread (spoiler: not in labs) is a welcome breath of well-credentialed fresh air. If you wondered how a virus evolves, what motivates it, whether such a thing even can be motivated, and whether what we’re living through now is truly new, then this will be a compelling read.
If you’re done with the pandemic, and news about the pandemic, and staying up-to-date on every scrap of information about the pandemic, perhaps The Jane Austen Society is what you’re looking for. It’s about a group of people coming together to protect the historical final home of Jane Austen. They call themselves… you guessed it: The Jane Austen Society! They come from completely different walks of life, but their shared love of Jane Austen brings them together. Literally, together, in the same room. It sounds nice.
