Fourth Wing, the book that lit the bestseller lists on fire and crowned Romantasy the new “it” hybrid genre blending elements of high fantasy with will-they-won’t-they romance tropes, was released not even 2 years ago. Rebecca Yarros’ story of a bookworm-turned-dragon-riding-soldier quickly became a phenomenon the likes of which the book industry sees once a decade, recalling Fifty Shades of Grey and The Hunger Games (or Harry Potter and The Da Vinci Code if we reach further back). With the release of Onyx Storm, the middle installment in a planned 5-book series, Yarros now seems as unstoppable as an elite wingleader riding into battle at top speed.

We Do Not Part by Han Kang is the novelist’s first book to be published since she was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in late 2024. Inseon has been injured in an accident and calls on her friend Kyungha to visit her in Seoul. There she asks Kyungha to brave the winter weather bearing down on her home on Jeju Island and save Ama, her beloved white bird. Kyungha agrees to go to Ama, but this mission of friendship proves more challenging than anticipated. This novel bears all the mastery of Kang’s previous writing, with dream-like elements woven throughout to contrast against the pieces of Korean history the reader is forced to confront. Readers of Kang’s breakout book The Vegetarian will not be disappointed.

Indigenous author David A. Robertson’s eclectic oeuvre includes books for young readers, different kinds of nonfiction, and award-winning literary fiction. The sheer number of titles is impressive enough, but what’s truly remarkable is the abundance of talent Robertson puts on display with everything he tries his hand at. That’s what makes his new book All the Little Monsters: How I Learned to Live with Anxiety so intriguing. The world he takes us into in this book is his own interior mental life, where his apparent career success can’t hold off depression heavy enough to keep him in bed for days at a time. He shares the lows in vivid, moving detail, but he also paints a picture of how he carries on day to day—through the love and support of family and community, but also therapy and medication. The realness served by someone with such a gift for imagining is refreshing and inspiring.
