94 new books coming out October 8 - 21, 2024

A rapid-fire run through a few of the best books coming out this week and next

Atlas Six author Olivie Blake capped that trilogy in January of this year with The Atlas Complex. And while she catches her breath after writing three rather long books in rapid succession while ascending to the heights of authorly fame we can spend time with Januaries: Stories of Love, Magic & Betrayal, a collection of 14 stories, some published previously along with a few brand-new ones.

In Framed: Astonishing True Stories of Wrongful Convictions, legal thriller juggernaut John Grisham teams up with Jim McCloskey, founder of Centurion Ministries, a non-profit dedicated to exonerating the wrongly convicted using DNA evidence. Canadians will recognize David Milgaard as one of those freed from incarceration based on a re-examination of evidence through the efforts of Centurion. This is Grisham’s second nonfiction work since 2010’s The Innocent Man.

Speaking of shorter works old and new, Margaret Atwood’s Paper Boat is a collection of the iconic author’s poems selected from throughout the entirety of her career, from her 1961 debut work Double Persephone (a collection of poems published as a pamphlet) to her 2020 collection Dearly.

Another poetry collection to pick up as we mark the 1-year anniversary of the horrific events that sparked the war between Israel and Hamas is Palestinian poet Mosab Abu Toha’s Forest of Noise, featuring astonishing, often whimsical poems he somehow managed to write while fleeing for safety with his family.

When Lisa Marie Presley, daughter or Priscilla and Elvis Presley, died in 2023 at the age of 54, she was already at work on her memoir and had enlisted the help of her daughter, actor Riley Keough. From Here to the Great Unknown: A Memoir exists through audio recordings Lisa Marie made in which she talked about the trauma of finding her father’s body, her incredible upbringing on the “Graceland” estate, her marriage to Michael Jackson, and what it meant to her to become a mother.
