The eponymous hero of Lee Child's bestselling Jack Reacher crime thrillers is a fun character to root for: he's tough as nails and sharp as a tack—and he always puts the pursuit of justice ahead of the fine print of the law. His code is his own, even when it requires him to get his hands dirty (and bloody).
