    Cold Blood

Erica Foster receives a call as a suitcase is found on a river bank. When she manages to open it, she makes the gruesome discovery of a male body, dismembered, with the face beaten beyond recognition and neatly packed inside. The killer has even been kind enough to leave some identification in the pocket of the case! As Erica gathers her team, minus Peterson, who is still recovering from having being shot, another suitcase appears further down the Thames, this time it contains a female, with the body in the same condition. Having to beg Melanie, her superior, for more staff and a budget so she can investigate whether both bodies are the result of the same killer as she suspects. This 5th book in the series has been just as excellent as the previous were. Whether this is the first you pick up by Robert, or you've read the others, you are in for a real treat with this. From the first hard hitting chapter, I was absolutely dying to get my hands on this, and hope it continues for a long time to come.

    Intricate, riveting, and creepy!

Cold Blood is an engrossing, chilling police procedural that highlights just how easily some people can be swayed and manipulated into doing the most horrific things and reminds us that desperate people will do almost anything, at any cost to protect themselves. The writing is bold and crisp. The characters are resilient, impulsive, and troubled. And the plot, told from differing points-of-view, keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish as it whips you through well-timed twists, unforeseen surprises, deception, abuse, violence, corruption, and murder. Overall, Cold Blood is a gripping, highly entertaining, harrowing thriller that proves once again Bryndza is a talented, natural storyteller with a vivid imagination. Cold Blood is the fifth novel in the Erika Foster series and all I can say is if you’re not already reading this series, you should be!

    A fantastically thrilling book.

This is a fantastic novel as expected. The story is complex and gripping right until the end. I have read the entire series of Erika Foster books and I have enjoyed all of them. Robert Bryndza draws his characters really well and his plots are always chillingly plausible.I really enjoyed this book.

    Gripping Thriller

This is my first venture into reading this series. Having read read some of Robert Bryndza's other stories (Coco Pinhard's Must have Toy Story and A very Coco Christmas) this book was everything that I wanted from a serial killer story. The story is told from two different view points, one from the main character (Erika Foster) and the other provides a back story that at first I wondered what the significance was but then it all fitted into place. I found that I was able to read this story without reading any of the other books in the series. Robert provides enough background so that you still feel in the loop. Being set in London I was able to picture the places mentioned. Whilst it felt that it took me a while to get into the story and it felt like it took me a long time to read, I found that once I hit the 50% mark then it flowed into the rush to get the killer. I liked that we had a glimpse into the background of the killer but I do feel that more could have been explained and his interest in the books he had read and the comment about a commander at the end could have been delved into a bit more, unless it is gearing up for something bigger in the next book, who knows? I enjoyed reading the background on Detective Erika Foster and seeing her life outside of the case, I feel that it makes the character more real in the eye of the reader. Whilst I can not say that I found the story "Gripping" I would be interested in going back and reading the rest of the series.

Thriller or procedural? Particle or wave?

I was confused at first by Erika and Melanie's ranks between the end of the first book and the start of this one. Fortunately, that is explained early in the book (although I think the confusion would have been avoided if it was explained earlier). Erika seems to spend a lot of times on the sidelines in this one. The the Met so incompetent that it can only solve thinks when Erika is working? I think this book is about half devoted to the killers and half to the police procedure. As I mentioned in my review of the previous book, I would prefer these if the story was told entirely from the police point of view. It isn't really a "who done it" if you know who did before you are even a quarter of the way through the book. The story does flow well though and I still recommend it.
