    Very impressed

I've read a lot of ZPAW books and I'm also from Alaska. I had been looking forward to reading these for awhile but honestly expected a mediocre experience with a story that would only relate to locals. I'm very happy to say that I was wrong! The writing is VERY well done for ANY genre but for ZPAW fiction this was absolutely top tier. The characters were 100% believable and the dialogue did not feel stilted or forced like some beginning/independent authors tend to make it. Locals can easily follow along with the locations with only a few moments that make you stop and wonder how two landmarks occurred so closely together. Some local name dropping was the only dialogue that felt out of place but would only seem so to locals. For example, we would either say "GCI"or "Cable" but we wouldn't refer to it as "GCI Cable". This probably just serves to let readers that were truly interested in following along geographically with Google what to type while keeping it more specifically Alaskan than using a generic term. In stories with several characters in simultaneous yet separate situations it can be hard for readers to keep them straight, especially when they don't stand out. However, all of these characters were unique and added to the story. I had no trouble following along with multiple, alternating views and could feel a palpable loss with each death--there were no main characters thrown in to just serve as gory page padding. They each had purpose and, well, character. Some reviews mention political slants (anti Tea Party I think one said?), bias against gun owners, and anti-Christian sentiments but honestly, I found none of that, just a variety of characters with differing views and unless the stress had pushed them too far, reasonable and opposed opinions. Nothing was blatant or in your face about any of that. (To be fair I've only read the first two books--things may change later) In a world of ZPAW fiction where as many self or independently published stories exist as do professionally (likely much more!) this outshines most anything else, easily equalling (and in my opinion, surpassing the only mainstream ZPAW novel: World War Z). As an avid and fairly critical reader I really don't think this is tainted by local pride. These are just darn good books and I highly recommend them.

    Good zombie chaser

Nice to see that it isn't the typical hunker down in cover and fight legions of the Dead. I like it when they stay on the run. A good read and great characters. A great add to the growing popularity of the genre. I give this a 4 brains rating.....
