I had never heard of Greg until Natchez Burning...

I had just gotten this tablet with the Kobo app so I decided to try it out with my first book in years, Natchez Burning. Let me tell you that right from the beginning, I knew I was gonna love this book and so I did. I just couldn't put it down. I read like a maniac. The more action and drama he gave me , the more I wanted until finally the glorious conclusion. Afterwards I started looking up more works by Greg Iles, only to find out that I had missed three books in a series and that there's one to come, which I've since purchased. You won't regret reading all five books in the series and they will leave you hankering for more, like a crack fiend. I'm not a writer or a critic, but I can tell you that this author has an abundance of talent and skill that will keep our eyes and mind glued to his words for many years to come!

Greg Iles creates a moving and memorable read!

Excellent development of characters that you grow to care about all the more as the story unfolds. I found myself deeply involved in the plot and wanting justice to smite those who chose to criminally attempt to keep African Americans from living their lives freely in the second half of the 20th century. Some citizens continue to be a part of this gross ignorance in the form of racism in the 21st century in America and around the globe. We can find solace in this work of fiction as the same kind of justice is sometimes mirrored in the real world. A book of hope...

    intense read

this book is brutal and sometimes sadistic in some of its portrayals of certain events in the story....and if that doesn't bother you, or if you can suck it up and read through the tough stuff, you will enjoy it as a fast paced story that is both exciting, frustrating and vey difficult to put down. You cant help but feel for the characters and sooooo badly want the good guys to win. Read it to find out if they do.

    Natchez Burning

Although the book is well researched & has interesting local historical detail, as a "thriller", it lacks pace. This story could have been told in half the number of pages. This is one of those books I felt duty bound to finish to see if there really was going to be a climax.

    interesting story

The story was very interesting and at the end of the chapters it kept you wanting to read more. It was a very long narrative with too much detail especially with encounters between characters to the point where I was confused as to what was happening and it seemed so unreal and I found myself skimming over these parts. The ending left me with a feeling that not too much was resolved. Nothing seemed to tie in to the rest of the story after all! I think a work of fiction should at least not abruptly end especially with such a long narrative! It did very strongly make you aware of the injustices of the sixties and I was impressed with historical accuracy. I'm sure that real events like this happened without a good outcome most of the time but I felt for a fiction it could have left the reader with a sense of justice being done.
