  • Disappointing

This book was confusing to read and had little actual substance - it was the same material repeated over and over with minute and inconsequential pieces of information added. It felt as if the author had taken a headline and tried to stretch it into a novel. Not worth the time taken to read it, which is a disappointment with a novel by Jodi Picoult.

  • Not one I would consider going back to.

I love Jodi Picoult's books and look forward as new ones come out. But I was a bit disappointed with this one. I really didn't like that she essentially wrote it backwards...I felt that often I was rereading the same thing with a tiny bit added. Topic was current and people were real enough, but didn't really enjoy it.

  • A Good Book by Jodi Picoult

This was a good read by Jodi Picolt. She switched a lot from character to character and I had to really focus instead of reading faster and breezing through it seamlessly. The topic is quite controversial and she covered it from all angles in a very unbiased fashion.

  • A Difficult Read

I've read many of her books and this is my least favorite. Not because it isn't a good story (it is) but because it is told in reverse order to how events occur. I've no doubt this is an interesting exercise for the writer but for the reader, starting a novel at the penultimate moment tests your patience and makes for a tedious read.

  • A Spark of Light

My first time reading Jodi Picoult earlier this year to find out what all the hype is about. This novel is thought-provoking at the very least and makes you take a hard look in the mirror on the topic. I feel like this work was written longer than was necessary, but that's why it isn't my work and one of a renowned author's. Preference prevailed; I found it a struggle to finish. I deducted another star because it was easy to put down and come back to, it didn't take hold of my heart or force me into a world I needed to find out more about. A pleasant but, at times, a difficult read that only complimented a complicated plot and social issue - would still recommend to read for yourself.
