A book to get lost in

Against a Darkening Sky by Lauren B Davis is a novel set in 7th century England that follows the collision of two lives: Wilona, a young woman apprenticed to Touilt the village seeress and healer, and Egan a young monk who has come to the same village bringing a new faith, Christianity. Wilona and Egan are equally devout and passionate as they each struggle to follow their hearts and stay true to their own beliefs. Although they express their devotion in startlingly different ways. There is a fight for the hearts and minds of the population, also a testing of obedience, duty and how does one fit into an increasingly complicated world. Against a Darkening Sky is a beautifully written novel that transports the reader to a very different time and place. We are taken into a landscape so different from our own but inhabited by beautifully written characters whose lives, desires and challenges are utterly familiar. Lauren B Davis has written a moving story that sweeps you up and carries you along. A great book to get lost in.
