Reviewed by K.C. Finn for Readers' Favorite Alien a la Carte is a work of fiction in the science fiction and comedy genres. It is aimed at mature adult readers and was penned by LizaRose Alderson. The book follows the life of wannabe xeno-nutritionist Bae as he settles into his compromise career choice as a chef on space station Theta. Unable to be part of the organization colonizing new worlds due to his asthma, Bae instead uses his skills and knowledge to become the best space chef in the business. But when a military captain comes to him with a mission that requires his special skills, Bae’s chance to visit brave new worlds finally arrives. This book is an excellent fusion of science fiction and comedy, using the high concept conceits of the science fiction genre to create a universe that is as hilarious as it is strange and wonderful. LizaRose Alderson has created a wonderful Everyman in the form of Bae, despite his incredibly niche and futuristic career goals. Using the character as a mirror for our own struggles with purpose and finding our place in the world is a wonderful idea and serves as a great central theme to this comic story of alien worlds and perfect cuisine. Alien a la Carte is a rib-tickling ride through a mesmerizing science fiction universe that I hope we’ll get to see more of. The prose is amusing, the characters are relatable, and the adventure is one that will stay with readers afterward. I happily recommend this book to all.
