    Great plot, characters and writing.

A novel about family, community, tragedy and the choices we make to protect what we love most. Bear Town is a brilliant novel filled with unforgettable, heartbreaking, resilient characters that stay with you long after the book ends.

    Wonderful Read!

This book is about hockey, but it is also about lifestyle, about parenting styles, about how children grow up making choices that are partly due to how they are raised, but also partly due to their personalities and inner motivation. This book is also about how a town can foster pride in accomplishment – and how pride is always a double-edged sword. Pride can be the catalyst for people to excel and pride can also create a sense of entitlement. Actions without consequences. Consequences that lead to tragedies. And where does it stop? Is a line drawn at the forest? In the ice? In the earth? Who draws the line? Who crosses it because it is there? Who has the courage to stop the spiral before tragedy begets more tragedy? This story is one of lives and lifestyles careening out of control and what it takes to bring a town back to its truest self again. I loved this story and if you haven’t read it yet, you have a wonderful experience ahead of you!

    Beartown - could be Canadian!

A book that starts innocently enough and turns into a thoughtful book on some very deep issues. Really enjoyed the read.

    Beartown

Impeccably written with an addictive plot, I would give this novel 10 stars if I could. So many relatable characters whose stories are all intricately entwined. I thought Backman hit the nail on the head in depicting what a rape culture in a small, close knit, economically-suffering community would look like. I loved how this tale was told by multiple voices, from both sides of the tracks, with background stories sprinkled in at critical points in the story. This was my first time reading Backman's work (in 2018) and I cannot say enough how impressed I was - I will pre-order and read anything he publishes in the future.

    Great reading

This is a well-written story about delicate topics like sexuality, drugs, loyalty, and parenting. A great book, that has more than one climax and main character. I truly recommend!
