Romance with humour and some suspense

Forced to take care of herself at a very young age, Charlotte, otherwise known as Charlie, discovered that being dressed like a man allowed her to earn an honest wage and take care of herself. Having firmly put a damper on all her feminine attributes, one would think that Charlie would be gruff and unfeeling about the needs of others. The opposite is, in fact, true, as she cares deeply not only for her own family but for the children of the town. Charlie's initial meeting with Travis MacGregor is hilarious and I found myself laughing out loud. Despite having been conned, Travis' interest in Charlie is piqued and before long he is asking to court her. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy about this development and when Charlie's life is put in danger, Travis realises that he has brought problems to his friends' doorstep. Of the Brides of the Oregon Trail series, I think I have enjoyed this book the most, as there is wit, romance, suspense and a love that would not be denied. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

    Will he love her back?

I really like Charlie/Charlotte and Travis. Charlie thinks she already knows Travis when he shows up. Travis is Ian's friend and he has come out West to start over. He isn't the guy that Charlie thinks he is. Travis wants to court Charlie, but she isn't sure she will ever marry. She wears pants, hunts and fishes. If he wants a dainty woman, she is not for him. After they are in a compromising situation, they both know that they will marry. Travis just wanted Charlie to get to know him better before he married her. A woman followed Travis out West and she will do anything to get rid of Charlie. Including murder. Will Charlie survive long enough to tell Travis that she does love him? Will he love her back?
