    French Exit

Fascinating characters! The feel of a Tennessee Williams play without a demanding moral authority, just a necessary circuit of a life defined only by the authority of and attraction to privilege.

    Appropriate Title

I thoroughly enjoyed the author's style of writing. The story was excellent and well written with great characters. The descriptions were vivid and the people were complex. I loved the twist with the cat. Frances was colourful and sassy and Malcolm was a devoted son with insecurities related to his dysfunctional family and childhood. I would highly recommend this book.

    French Exit

What was the point of creating eccentric characters that have no redeeming qualities. Couldn't relate to anyone in the book. Why didn't she do some good with her last money or give to her useless son? Actually felt sorry for the cat.

    French Exit?

A very unusual story, that makes me wonder at the peculiarities of character. Frances walks out on her dead husband, who's essence seems to be captured in their cat. Her son, Malcolm seems lost and directionless. Financial mismanagement sees them selling up everything to cover debts and fleeing to Paris where Francis' frivolous actions leaves them bereft of funds just as she makes her final exit. This is definitely something that I would never have read save as a selection for The Front of House Book Club.
