    A complicated relationship and murder

Calvin James and Geo have a complicated relationship. He's a serial killer, and she's been doing time for a murder he committed. The murder of her best friend. The story begins when Geo is sentenced to 5 years for the murder of her best friend, Angela, as she covered up Calvin's crime when she was 16 years old. The dynamic between Angela and Geo comes to life as flashbacks throughout the story take us back in time to when Geo first met Calvin, and what happened that fateful day. I'm a flashback lover, so I particularly enjoyed these scenes. When Calvin escapes prison (which we don't find out how, so this was a tiny flag that didn't settle well with me), Detective Kaiser takes the case. More murders are happening, imitating Calvin's MO, and they seem to be aimed at Geo. Then there is Geo's history with the Kaiser. A nice touch, since the ending brings this full circle. Overall, an engaging read, although one major plot hole bugged me, and without giving away spoilers, it had to do with Calvin's adopted children--the latest victims. Calvin's past relationships would have had to be public knowledge, which they weren't, so how those victims were targeted is a mystery we don't get answers to, but it's essential to the plot. Though, this doesn't diminish my enjoyment of the book, so it still gets a solid 4 stars.

    Cinnamon Candy Hearts . . . .

** spoiler alert ** Wow ! This book was really messed up. It was dark and twisted but the best books are, in my opinion. Relationships can be toxic and twisted, especially young, first loves. I think many people can relate to stories that contain relationships like this because they hit home. This book contains rape and abuse/domestic violence.

    Whoa

***4.5 ‘Wait. Hold Up Just One Second’ Stars*** That ending...what...when…*big heavy sigh* Okay, the ending is not the best place to start a review, especially when it will probably be all kinds of vague-non spoilery-verbal vomity (Warning you now) but, but I have so many questions now (please note that I am actually pouting while laughing as I write this) Because seriously?!? WT#? ***Takes deep...DEEP breath...holds it...and let’s it out slowly*** Okay. Let’s do this semi-properly. I don’t normally do mystery/suspense nowadays, but I’d been waffling over going for Jar of Hearts for a minute ~ I couldn’t get the cover out of my head and the blurb definitely peaked my curiosity ~ Then I saw the early reviews rolling in from other blogger/reviewers I follow and who tend to swim in the same opinion pool as myself and decided to give it a go because, why not? And I was hooked from the first page. HOOKED. I was in that weird limbo where I wanted to devour it while wanting to savor each detail because there was still so much unknown that I didn’t want to miss that ‘lightbulb’ moment when all of the innuendos and off handed thoughts and comments finally made sense ~ and let me tell you, when they did the lightbulb almost burst. While I won’t give away much of the of story line I will say that I was absolutely fascinated by Georgina aka Geo. Experiencing all that she went through and watching her reinvent herself throughout the story was, for lack of a better word, fascinating. I loved watching how she adapted to her surroundings and still held on to pieces of herself along the way. And regardless of how you may end up viewing her, you cannot deny her strength. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, even when the pacing dragged for me, which, despite how this review started, is my only real gripe. I’ll admit that the drag could very well be because of my need to know what the truth was, but it is what it is. But this one kept me on my toes and when all was revealed at the end, it was a total “Whoa” moment. But outside of the mystery and Geo herself, I thought all of the characters were well written. They were all unique and added layers to the story that gave it the depth that gave insight to the overall story without taking the focus off the main issue at hand. And as for the ending, it may just be me, but I have questions, this isn’t to say that the big plot questions aren’t answered, it’s just that kind of ending. ~ Copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley & voluntarily reviewed ~

    Must Read!!!

Wow, is the first word that's springs tot mind when I think of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it from the beginning till the end. The way the story is told kept me glued to the pages. It gave me al kind of emotions, shock and horror but also compassion for main character Geo Shaw who is sentenced and serving 5 years in prison because of her involvement in the murder of her teenage friend 14 years earlier. Hoe could she and her boyfriend of the time could have possibly done what they have done? Why did Geo keep everything she knew about that horrible night a secret for so long? Things are far from over when Geo is released from prison. In fact it's only then when the real thruth comes out. And it's more messed up than you think I promis!
