    What a thriller!

I started this book with doubts about both the main characters. Husband and wife, they just seemed odd. As I kept reading I realized how incredibly odd and scary they both were. While this could have been a stop, put this book down thought it was more of an Oh My Gosh, what are they going to do next? I knew the other shoe was going to drop, I knew that there was going to be that moment when the story shifted, and I was so looking forward to it. When the story changed paths, I was let down. I needed more; I wanted a more climatic event then what happens. I needed it to be as dramatic as the rest of the story was and it just didn’t happen that way. My Lovely Wife is a thriller, it is psychotic, and it is enthralling. I was pulled in and I couldn’t stop reading until I reached the end. I needed to know that the children in the book are safe and that the right people were held responsible for what was happening.

    Refreshing murder mystery

My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing is a psychological thriller. First, let me thank Edelweiss, the publisher Berkley Books, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. My Synopsis: (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions) A perfect family. Millicent and her husband have been married for 15 years, and have two children, Rory and Jenna. She is a real estate agent, and he teaches tennis at the local club. They have had to work at their marriage, but it’s going smoothly. Millicent is the strong one. She sets the rules around the house, and everyone follows those rules, including her husband (mostly). Everything is very structured, from television time to homework time, to healthy meals and very few sweets. It works. Millicent makes sure everything runs smoothly. He's the worrier. Millicent and her husband have, however, added a little spice to their marriage. He finds the perfect woman, and she kills her. This has really helped to keep their marriage strong, and interesting. Thus far, they’ve been getting away with murder….but even though Millicent continues to tell him not to worry, things seem to be getting out of control. My Opinions: Really interesting take on a husband and wife murder team. Told exclusively from the husband’s perspective, and although I was hoping at one point to hear her side, I eventually realized the author had her own reason. He was the weak one, and it really showed how strong Millicent was -- we don’t even learn his name. The plot was fun, the writing good, and the book kept me interested. It was fresh. However, the first half moved slowly, and although it was a good build-up, nothing really happened, so it felt like it dragged a bit. When it finally picked up, I didn’t set it down. Overall, I'd recommend it to someone who needs a fresh look on a murder mystery.

    unexpected

The book was superbly written. The twist was shocking and unexpected. Page gripping especially the last few chapters. However, i’m unsatisfied with the ending. I’m waiting for 2nd book!!!!
