Wonderful Episode in an Excellent Series

J.L. Langley has created a fascinating world in her Sci-Regency series, and I’m glad to say My Regelence Rake has all the action, romance, and fun of the first two books. This scenario is a winner: virgin prince marries experienced older man…. Oh yes, it works for me every time! Just a note, this is the third in a continuing series, so start with My Fair Captain and read these books in order. Between dodging the attentions of young Prince Colton, and his job as captain of the palace guards, Sebastian spends the rest of his time seducing men and honing his bedroom skills. I see the appeal, he is definitely an engaging character; though with the skeletons in Sebastian’s closet it’s no wonder he’s given up on finding happiness and love. Colton grew up in a loving family with two affectionate parents and he knows that’s the kind of relationship he wants as well. After crushing on the handsome older man for years, Colton finally gives up when he sees first hand that Sebastian is only interested in loose and easy men. It shows how strong Colton is, he knows he’ll never be loose or easy and he’s not willing to change his values just to get his man. The minute Colton starts to focus on his new goals you see the change in him, and so does Sebastian. With a renewed sense of purpose, Colton is more confident and mature; and the mutual attraction is obvious every time these two men cross paths. As Sebastian spends more time with Colton there are some very interesting developments in his personality. Watching him move from wanton rake to devoted consort happens gradually, and I really enjoyed the way J.L. Langley explores Sebastian’s character. Once he embraces his feelings for Colton, and realizes how much he needs his love, he blossoms into a new man. J.L. Langley always writes deliciously erotic love scenes, but she spices it up even more with this pairing. Both Colton and Sebastian are strong, dominant men and neither of them is going to bow down easily. When virginal Colton brings his “take charge” attitude to the bedroom, the effect it has on Sebastian is dramatic. This change in their dynamic puts the two men on an equal footing for the rest of the story. At home on Regelence readers are treated to some great family scenes in this edition of the series. The camaraderie between the brothers is easy to see and the affection between the parents is heartwarming. I’d love to see Steven and Cony get a book, or at least a short story. With at least three more books planned for this series I’m looking forward to where J.L. Langley takes us next.
