    On Duty

Troy has been in an arrangement with his roommate since they met in the marines. Troy always believed that they were more than friends with benefits until his ‘boyfriend’ announced that he had five days to get out before his now pregnant girlfriend arrived on the doorstep. The fact that Troy has just arrived home from a warehouse fire with multiple injuries doesn't seem to matter. Luckily for Troy he is found back at the fire station by paramedic Alex Tate, who, seeing his injuries takes him home to bed. Alex has had a crush on Troy for some time and now he's asleep in his bed. These two characters have both got some baggage to work through as well as the complications caused by a series of arsons that appear to be targeted at the fire station Troy works out of and even more specifically at his shift. The characters are well written and believable as they discover each other and work to rescue the people around them most in need. I look forward to reading the next in the series.

    Sexy and Smoking Dutiful Heroes!

This book with its humour and hotness had my fingers singed! Troy was so heroic and always willing to put his life on the line. When he was duped and blindsided by his awful boyfriend, you could feel his disillusionment and hurt even if he hid it well. Through his pain and hurt, he still manages to open up his heart. That has to be admired. As for Alex Tate, there are no words! His knowledge base, witty comebacks, helpfulness and open heart are a treat. Add in some wonderful and loving family members and cute pedicured toes and he is just plain adorable! His back story so was heart wrenching but it never made Alex bitter. Although, I would have been... These characters and their situations were so real that I was completely enthralled! The first book in the Smoke and Bullets Series has me enamoured with these heroes and the author A.R. Barley! A recommended read! Can't wait to get my hands on the other stories!
