Fantastic book that you won't want to put down!

This book draws you in within the first few pages. It builds a strong connection with the main character and makes you feel for him as his life unfolds, both good and bad. Cannot wait for the next book to see where the story continues!

    Great midieval fantasy.

I really enjoyed this book, and didn't want to put it down. The "father/daughter" relationship between Gerold and Anna is a beautiful story on its own. All of the characters are wonderfully brought to life with writing that paints a detailed picture. Having finished this first book, I would like very much to see the King and his cronies die slowly and painfully, and cannot wait for "Sword of the Crown" to be released in 4 days. I'm also a fan of Kathrine Kurtz' Deryni series, and this doesn't have nearly as much magic, but does share the coming of age of a brilliant young person, as well as the eternal struggle of good versus evil. I strongly recommend this series.

    Mixed feelings

Although quite an entertaining read this book needs a good editing. It begins as a medieval adult story but then becomes more of a juvenile literature piece set in a 16th century stately home. It should also be noted that cats don't develop in wounds, it's pus.

    Captivating read

Easy to get into this story, a new twist on the story of a man seeking redemption for something he didn't do. Well written, a few plot twists thrown in to keep things interesting
