A brilliant beginning to an incredible series!

It is no spoiler to anyone who has ever read anything I've written about Gena Showalter's books that I love her writing. I love how she crafts her words to bring to life everything and everyone she wants the reader to feel, see, taste, touch, and hear. Gena is one of those rare Writers that gently ease the reader into the experience of her story. She welcomes the reader to journey along with the characters as they trek their world, and often other worlds, in search of who, what, when, where, and why. Gena's newest book is a taste for the senses! Shadow and Ice beckoned me to read about Knox and the predicament they found themselves in. I followed along with Vale as she and Nola trekked the Arctic and was startled with them at the revelation of their discovery. I fought beside, went through peril, wanted to help those I loved, bled for what I thought had betrayed me, and fell in love. Most of all, I didn't want the story to end. Gena did such a great job, enticing me to keep reading despite the distractions around me, I often forgot what I should be doing. As soon as I flipped the last page, I wanted the next book so I could keep reading. This book has it all and I wanted more! I. Needed. More. Gods of War #2 is sure to be brilliant. Gena will once again, tempt me with her incredible command of words and I will (eagerly) wrap my hands around her new book and devour everything she offers. I absolutely, wholeheartedly, and completely love and recommend Shadow and Ice.

    Shadow and Ice

There's a lot going on in this book. It's a new series so that's to be expected. It was good. I'm looking forward to the next book.

This was my first time reading an Adult book by Gena Showalter and I’m pumped to have read it as part of this tour! I thought Shadow and Ice was good. It didn’t blow my mind like my past experiences with Gena Showalter’s books (the White Rabbit Chronicles – LOVED that series), but it was still good. The book kept me mostly captivated. There were a few times where my mind wandered while reading, but for the most part I was completely invested in the story. The story was quite good. There was some back-and-forthness with a couple different things that I wasn’t the hugest fan of. Especially because there wasn’t much time between the back-and-forthness if that makes sense. So it was almost like, what’s the point of even having that as part of the story. Some things just seemed a little too easy. I would love to explain better what I mean, but I can’t without spoiling some major plot points. The characters were quite good as well. They were well developed and relatable (even though most of them are immortal). I am a fan of Gena Showalter’s writing style and am looking forward to reading more of her books in the future. I was a bit bummed to learn that the second book in this series is from different perspectives. I’m not a fan of series that go that route because I spent a whole book getting super attached to these characters, and then all of a sudden in the next book they’re secondary characters. Not cool (in my opinion).

    Scorching

Fantastic start to a new and electrifying series! Gena has spun the web and placed the players. Vale and Knox create more than steam when they are together, they ignite the pages! The next book cannot come soon enough! In love with the series already. Want more now!

Fierce, seductive, and savagely action packed!

Shadow and Ice is a riveting, at times shocking tale that introduces us to Vale London and her sister, Nola, two young women stranded in the Arctic who inadvertently stumble upon warriors from the fight-until-death, All War battle who have been frozen for 1,400 years, until now. The prose is intense and intricate. The characters are unique, remorseless, and scarred. And the plot is an imaginative, compelling tale of supernatural abilities, magnificent weapons, sizzling chemistry, brutal violence, loyalty, humour, romance, and murder. I have to say Shadow and Ice is like taking Hunger Games, Marvel Super Heroes, Gladiator, and a slice of mythology and mixing them all together. It's an epic saga featuring lots of bloody battles, grit, determination, gore, sexual tension, heat, adventure, and fantastical elements that is without a doubt suspenseful, violent, steamy, and thoroughly entertaining.
