3.5 stars- An age gap, humor, and a heatwave

Slow Summer Heat was a sweet Christmas short that not only featured a May-December romance between neighbors, but also had an opposites-attract feel. I’ve read this author before and found her writing upbeat and full of good banter, so I was pleased that this short delivered more of the same. As someone from the Northern hemisphere, I found focusing on a heatwave at Christmas time different and really fun. I also thought the way Geoffrey and Vaughn ended up in close quarters was interesting and definitely grabbed my attention. As with other works I’ve read from this author, I enjoyed the humor written into the scenes and exchanges quite a bit. While this romance does move quite quickly, it didn’t feel far-fetched or rushed. Both characters were likable and decently flushed out to get a good feel for them as a couple, leaving me with a smile on my face for most of the story. Slow Summer Heat is a holiday short is sure to please readers and ensured I’ll continue watching for more from this author in the future. *Reviewed for Alpha Book Club*

    Wonderful Holiday Story

Slow Summer Heat has everything that makes a Renae Kaye story great, and this is why I snap up every one of her books as soon as they’re released. This little novella has it all: humor, that ranges from smirks to belly laughs; interesting, engaging characters; and the quest for the HEA that Ms. Kaye does so well. I’m adding Slow Summer Heat to the top of my holiday re-read list! Sweet and insecure, I couldn’t wait to see how Geoffrey was going to snag his sexy, buff, younger neighbor. Of course we can see that Vaughn clearly has the hots for shy, clueless Geoffrey…. There’s no doubt about it, this is going to be some dance! The fun in this story is watching the men get to know each other. As they spend more time together Geoffrey’s impression of Vaughn changes, the paragon he envisioned becomes a real person. It turns out Vaughn is incredibly sweet and he takes Geoffrey’s needs to heart. He is considerate and patient, and guides Geoffrey’s diffidence into some seriously kinky sexy-times. Light and funny, I don’t think a page went past without a chuckle from me. The courtship of Geoffrey and Vaughn is sweet and sexy with plenty of heat at the end. (As fans of Renae Kaye can attest, she writes a mighty fine love scene.) Slow Summer Heat is everything I want in a romance novel, and everything I hope for in a holiday read.
