The rise and fall of the Indian Posse

Timely read, in that the 2nd founding member of this aboriginal gang, Richard, just passed after surviving 604 days in segregation. Living in Ontario, I had only a fringe awareness of the depth and breadth of aboriginal marginalization faced in Winnipeg and the West. Mom survived residential schools, plagued with her own addictions, and a father who faced 55 criminal charges before his death... needless to say, absent parents is an understatement. Looking for family, the brothers form a gang. Which terrorizes and move drugs and prostitution through the rough end of Winnipeg. Years in jail, an unprecedented jail break, gang warfare and gang code... well written, by Globe and Mail journalist, Joe Friesen. Worth stepping outside your usual nonfiction and learning something new.

    Precautionary tale

In depth portrait of a man who was determined to survive. Given no real chance of survival Daniele Wolfe forced a way to not just to survive but thrive on no ones terms but his own. I personally recommend this book
