    An exciting romance

The Duke's Defiant Bride is one of those stories that lingers in your thoughts long after you have closed the book. It should in fact come with a warning that once you start reading, you won't be able to put it down. From the opening chapter to the Epilogue, the reader is kept in enthralled by this well written Napoleonic romance, where enemies find themselves in a stand-off, only to fall hopelessly and irrevocably in love. Captain Adams is taken prisoner by Lady Blade, the mythical French spy, and he then turns the tables as she ends up as his prisoner. As the story evolves, it becomes clear that Carver Adams and Juliet Reed are unable to escape the intense attraction between them so that when their love goes up in explosive flames, the sense of betrayal is even more intense than their fiery love affair. I was totally engrossed in this book and became resentful when the humdrum of everyday life intruded on my reading pleasure, as it was very difficult to tear myself away. Carver Adam and his band of soldiers are all delightful characters and Juliet Reed is the type of heroine we all long to be: feisty, self-sufficient and resourceful. I highly recommend this well written novel as it is exciting, romantic and insightful. I receive a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

    Romantic and suspenseful

This is an intriguing and romantic story. It's full of drama, amusement, betrayal and interesting characters. Carver is snarky, sweet and charming. Juliet is brave, strong, stubborn and a little naive. In the midst of a battle, in which they are on opposing sides, they find themselves irresistibly drawn to each other. Carver knows immediately that Juliet is the woman he wants for his wife. Juliet isn't inclined to agree, she's a soldier, a spy, not an English wife. They are separated in dramatic fashion, then meet again years later. And still have the same issues, and Carver also has a lack of trust, and Juliet thinks that Carver hates her. The end of the story is exciting and amusing. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

    Excellent book

Spies, soldiers, the Napoleon Wars, all make a great backdrop for a love story. Captain Carver Adams is a soldier and a good one. He becomes the Duke of Hawksmoor after the war. Lady Blade, Juliet Reed, half English and half French, has lost her mother to English soldiers, all she wants is revenge. What a story, there are battles, treason and an old friend from the past shows up. It makes for one amazing tale. The descriptions are so good and bring you into the story. The characters are so life like and the dialogue is so natural. The plot has some interesting twists, it moves smoothly and is even paced. Ms. McMasters has done a wonderful job of keeping your interest and attention. I loved this book and so highly recommend it I received the book from the author and voluntarily reviewed

    An Engaging Read

Is revenge a good enough reason to abandon one's dreams of happiness and love? What happens if the reason for revenge is taken away? Can love survive apparent betrayal? Read Juliet and Carver's story to find out!

    Fabulous!

How can you not love a book with a heroine named Lady Blade? I have such a vivid image of her in my mind. The first few pages set the pace and tone for the entire book. Hang on because it is an intriguing and fascinating ride. Carver is the best of heroes. He is brave, charming and handsome. Juliet (Lady Blade) is smart, courageous and beautiful. Once ago lovers, both had thought they lost the other forever. Now they must come together on the same mission. The sparks file and I started hoping for a happily ever after as soon as the book started. Ms. McMaster has given us a refreshing book that is not your typical Regency romance. It kept me on the edge of my seat until The End. I have not read the earlier books in the series, but look forward to going back and doing so now. I received an ARC of this book. The choice to read and review it was all mine.
