A good book with one plot unresolved

The book itself is good but I've given it a lower rating for violating a cardinal rule of series books (or at least it should be) - tell a complete story in the book. It's okay to leave the running story unresolved but don't tell half a story and expect your readers to be happy about it. There are three plots running through this book, two that are part of the story and one that is an ongoing plot. One of the story plots is resolved and the ongoing plot is resolved to the point of "okay, we've finished this part of the story. We can move on to the next phase). One plot is half-told and left unresolved for the next book. It makes me think the author is desperate for sales. (I'm sure this isn't the case but it does leave that perception).
