    Writing style tough to read

An interesting story and gripping concept. I watched the newly aired tv adaptation so I had an idea of what to expect. If I hadn't seen the show first I think this book wouldn't have held my interest. Mainly the writing style is a bit difficult to follow. Being written as mostly narrative it can be verbose at times. However, I'm glad I read this book. The ending was not in a style that I would prefer but overall a very compelling storyline that could speak to the hearts of women everywhere. Bottom line: This is a rare time when I think the television adaptation is actually better than the book.

    Heartwrenching

I read this book when I was quite young and it always stayed with me. Rereading it now reminded me how much I loved this book. Atwood shows us a future that is eerily close, especially considering the current political climate. I also love that this was Offred's tale to tell, from her perspective, not some omniscient narrator. We are only privy to what she knows, what she remembers and we are left to fill in the blanks. If only we could ask her the questions we want answers to. As a woman, I always feel that we are one slippery step away from losing our power and independence. It has not been that long that we have acquired what little we have. We are not yet equal in this, our western society and how easy it would be to strip us of the few privileges we have. Many women in today's culture around the world have no power. Just ask the educated and working women in Iran who were stripped of everything with one change of regime. Ever vigilante we must remain.

    An amazing introduction to Atwood

This book has been my introduction to Margaret Atwood and I have to count it as one of the most interesting works I've read. That's perhaps not the highest of praise one can give, but it truly is a fascinating book. The way the author creates a world of thoughts and emotions is truly amazing.

    The handmaids tale

Wow. I will say that after reading this book I went to the bank and took out all my money. In this paranoid time we ARE living and I do not doubt that in future history books will also list that, this book is scary , a head shaker, a biting of the lip, sweating- I wiped the sweat off my face a few times ha.As a barren woman that I am, I truly can understand the pressure to have that darling baby bump and sweet baby names . To take pictures and gloat over that precious angel on social ,media and in that Mommy circle. Oh and that proud grandma. Thank you for the read, I really needed it. I am watching the show on Bravo as well.

    The handmaids tale

Idid not like that the reader was left hanging at the end, not knowing the outcome for offred and a lot of it was too vaige to be able to fill in the blanks, too many unanswered questions for the reader, it failed to met my epectations, the historical notes at the end did not help but rather added to the feeling of being left hanging, with no answers
