    Atmospheric surroundings and relationships

Harper's descriptions of the dry isolation of this part of Australia are wonderful. I love the way that the isolation is mirrored in the distance between farms and the small town and in the distance between the family members. I loved her character development. Really enjoyed The Lost Man.

    A disturbing family story

The Bright family lives in the Australian Outback, a place of stark landscapes and difficult life. The three Bright brothers - Nathan, Cameron and Bub - have a strained relationship, the details of which are revealed after Cameron is found dead. I have read and enjoyed Jane Harper's previous novels but this latest tale was less intriguing to me.
